Safety on the Ice

With milder temperatures on the way, the Ottawa Drowning Prevention Coalition in conjunction with the City of Ottawa want to remind residents of the dangers of being on ice and open water. When ice begins to thaw it may look solid but is often extremely dangerous. Grey ice is unsafe. The greyness indicates the presence of water. Check ice safety guidelines at Lifesaving Society or simply stay away from the ice.

What we're excited about this month

What are you excited about for March? Join the conversation on Facebook and let us know!

"The thing I love best about March is that it’s warmer than February! The snow is still on the ground but it’s not always so cold that you’re forced to stay inside. I’m excited to take my girls to try snowshoeing at Mooney’s Bay and to see the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade downtown. Both my daughters are in gymnastics classes, so our weekends are busy again and we have a small trip planned for March Break. Festival season is starting to ramp up and I’ve just learned about a Coffee Festival coming to Lansdowne Park at the end of the month. Lots to look forward to!"

"Winter is still here, and it won’t leave me alone. If I can borrow a turn of phrase from a much beloved children’s film, "The cold never bothered me anyway." Except that it does! The good news is that there is literally light at the end of the tunnel. I can see the days getting longer. I know that spring is on the way. Old Man Winter is politely being asked to move along as the new Hot Shot Spring makes its way to town!"

"I am most excited about seeing Matthew Good on March 2 at the Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe. Have been a fan for a couple decades now and have seen him perform several times before but it's supremely cool when he does the solo/acoustic thing as you get to hear the songs in a different way. Also looking forward to seeing Prince Hamlet at the NAC which is said to be 'a daring, stylish and inclusive take on the world’s most famous play.'"
