Many families in Ottawa have difficulty registering their children in sports and recreational programs because of financial restrictions or because there are few opportunities for their children who have physical or developmental challenges.
All children should experience playing Canada’s favourite sport! As a part of the I Love to Play Hockey program, participants learn basic hockey skills such as stick handling, puck control, passing, receiving and shooting in addition to the rules of the game. Community partners and children walk to neighbourhood outdoor rinks for lessons. Children and youth are outfitted with skates, helmets and sticks. At the completion of lessons, a special event takes place at the Canadian Tire Centre.

I love to take some time to get outside and enjoy skating at Ben Franklin Place and cross country skiing at Mooney’s Bay Ski Centre - right here within the city! "Winter showed up early and at first I was pretty peeved - I’ll be honest. But then I started thinking about the holidays. I started thinking about spending time with my family, snowy evenings spent under a blanket, shamelessly long midday naps and the simple joy of what our Danish friends call Hygge.
