I Love To

Many families in Ottawa have difficulty registering their children in sports and recreational programs because of financial restrictions or because there are few opportunities for their children who have physical or developmental challenges.

All children should experience playing Canada’s favourite sport! As a part of the I Love to Play Hockey program, participants learn basic hockey skills such as stick handling, puck control, passing, receiving and shooting in addition to the rules of the game. Community partners and children walk to neighbourhood outdoor rinks for lessons. Children and youth are outfitted with skates, helmets and sticks. At the completion of lessons, a special event takes place at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Holiday shows

What we're excited about this month

"With the temperatures on the chilly side and the snow falling it’s definitely getting my family in the mood for the festive season! We love parades, shows and hot chocolates by the fire at this time of year. Also, who doesn’t love a sparkly tree? I’m excited to start December in Ottawa enjoying all the city has to offer, then ending the year in the UK visiting family and friends. All that is left to say is, I wish you happy holidays full of love, laughter and warmth!"

"December means getting out the winter toys so the whole family can make the best of the snow. I love to take some time to get outside and enjoy skating at Ben Franklin Place and cross country skiing at Mooney’s Bay Ski Centre - right here within the city! It’s one of the perks to living in Ottawa. I hope you and your family enjoy the holiday season."
  • Laura
"Winter showed up early and at first I was pretty peeved - I’ll be honest. But then I started thinking about the holidays. I started thinking about spending time with my family, snowy evenings spent under a blanket, shamelessly long midday naps and the simple joy of what our Danish friends call Hygge. It’s all good stuff. So yeah, for now I’m pretty on board with winter and the holidays. After new years? I can’t make any promises."
