March Break Adventures for Kids

March 16 to 20 offers a perfect opportunity to try something new, improve your sports skills and make new friends at the many day camps across the city. Days filled with physical activity, games, songs, crafts and special events, guarantee there will be no boredom in this city. Our qualified and certified staff are busily planning for exciting times in March.

Hockey Day in Ottawa 

On Saturday, February 14, from 1 to 3 pm, lace up your skates and take to one of the City's outdoor rinks for a sunny Saturday afternoon of fun. Enjoy a game of pick-up hockey, skating, and physical fitness while showing support for your community volunteers who work hard all winter to maintain your local rinks. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather and wear a helmet and applicable safety equipment. Let's show the rest of Canada what a city that lives and breathes hockey really looks like.

Day Camp Leaders, Park Programmers and Life Guards Needed

If you are energetic, responsible and people-oriented, apply for summer jobs with the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services team.  The City of Ottawa summer student employment campaign is underway until February 27.  Dust off your resume and look at the opportunities through the Summer Student Employment Program.

Interested in volunteering in one of our recreation or culture programs to add to your resume, complete your school volunteer hour requirements or gain valuable work experience? Parks, Recreation and Culture Services have opportunities across the City.   Consider City Wide Sports, Before and After School Programs, Special Needs, Pathway Patrol, Heritage Sites, Museums, Archives, Swimming, March Break and Summer Camps? Volunteer with us to share your enthusiasm for being active in your community.

Winterlude Activities: January 30 to February 16

Enjoy skating on the state of the art refrigerated Rink of Dreams and, of course, eating a delicious, local favourite: Beavertails. Afterwards, take a tour inside City Hall and visit the Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame and the Karsh-Masson Gallery.  Galleries are free of charge.

City Hall and Lansdowne Park are proud partners of Winterlude. Also enjoy activities at Lansdowne Park.

Volunteer and Summer Employment Information Night

Interested in working or volunteering at the new Minto Recreation Complex-Barrhaven, 3500 Cambrian Road? Get the scoop on February 9 from 6:30 to 8 pm in the Cambrian Room.  

Family Day Fun at Minto Recreation Complex-Barrhaven

Free Swim from 10 am to noon and Free Public Skate sessions from 1-1:50 pm and 2-2:50 pm on Monday, February 16!  Come early as there are capacity limits for each.

Celebrate Heritage Day on February 17

Heritage Day is a nationwide celebration encouraging Canadians to explore local heritage. On February 17 at Ottawa City Hall, browse informational displays with 45 exhibitors at the Heritage Showcase.  Learn about local heritage organizations, public programs and special initiatives, as well as professional development and volunteer opportunities.

Writing Short Fiction: Would you like to find your unique story-teller's voice? Play with and to work on your writing? These workshops will consist of fun exercises to tickle your imagination and techniques will explore important aspects of writing short fiction, such as plotting and character development. Barcode: 933124
