What does it mean to be a Water Watcher?

You may not be a lifeguard – but to your child you’re the next best thing. Become a Designated Water Watcher and keep your children safe this summer and all year round.

As the designated Water Watcher:
  • I will watch the children in the pool and never leave them unattended.
  • I will regularly scan the bottom of the pool.
  • I will avoid poolside chats and talking on the phone.
  • I will keep a phone at the pool for emergency use only and know the address of the pool I am watching.
  • I will call 911 and follow advice to administer CPR if necessary.
  • I will locate and learn to use all pool safety equipment.

Is your community looking to host an event in 2020?

We invite local not-for-profit organizations, such as community groups and recreation associations to apply for up to $3,000 in funding to deliver community events that take place in local, geographic communities and neighbourhoods in the City of Ottawa.
