Older Adult Programs to keep you active, healthy, and having Fun this Fall!

Through the City of Ottawa, fitness is affordable and available to all age groups and mobility levels. The City offers a wide range of programs to fit everyone's lifestyle, and the Ottawa Hand in Hand fee support program subsidizes those with financial difficulties.

How do I register?

Not sure where to start? Take a look at our programs on ottawa.ca/recreationguide to see the impressive list of options available to you.  Need more of a personal touch?  Drop into a recreation centre in your neighbourhood and find out how they can meet your fitness needs.

Our flexible fitness membership options do not require a yearlong contract, and adults ages 65+ are eligible for a discount on adult programs offered at recreation facilities.

What classes are available?

You can choose to exercise in our conditioning centres, swim, skate or take group exercise classes such as aquafit, spinning©, yoga, Pilates, bootcamps, and the list goes on!

Prefer to take a specialty program? We offer a wide range of registration-based classes for all ages and stages and special needs.  We have sports conditioning, TRX, Zumba®, yoga, tai chi, Nordic walking and much more!

Anyone over 50 can enrol in any adult programs; however, there is also a catalogue of classes targeted directly at adults age 50 and older. You will find a variety of fitness classes with a focus on:
  • Muscle toning, cardiovascular conditioning and flexibility.
  • Weight-bearing exercises designed so participants of any age can strengthen bones and build bone mass.
  • Increasing your energy level and increase your confidence using weights and cardio machines in our facilities.
Maybe you'd rather sit down for a while with a good book. Maybe you'd like to write a good book, create some artwork and take some photos to go inside the book! These are all skills you can learn or sharpen through creative arts classes.

Many of Ottawa's older adults combine their activities with their social life through one of the City-operated seniors' centres. Here are the four Senior Centres located across Ottawa: This year choose to remain active in your community with the City of Ottawa's Parks, Recreation and Culture Services!
