At a ceremony today, Mayor Jim Watson, Kanata North Ward Councillor Jenna Sudds and Jeff Leiper, Acting Chair of the Transportation Committee, celebrated the official groundbreaking of the Campeau Drive extension. Members of the community were also present to help kick off the last phase of the $32-million project that will connect Campeau Drive from Didsbury Road to Country Glen Way in Arcadia.
This project includes a four-lane road, segregated cycling lanes, sidewalks, a roundabout at Winterset Road, two signalized intersections at Kanata Commons and Didsbury Road and a new bridge over the Carp River. Construction is expected to finish in fall 2021.
This project is part of the affordable road network outlined in the City’s Transportation Master Plan. It provides continuity in Kanata North, creates an important connection to new developments and improves capacity in a key commuting corridor.
“The extension of Campeau Drive will create a vital road network connection in Kanata North. It will provide a convenient way for residents in surrounding neighbourhoods to get to nearby shops and amenities, streamline local traffic patterns and alleviate congestion for commuters.”
Mayor Jim Watson, City of Ottawa
“Kanata North residents, especially the Arcadia community, have been anticipating this project for years. I’m thrilled that work has begun on this much-needed connection for our growing community.”
Councillor Jenna Sudds, Kanata North
