The City has revised its Planning and Development section on ottawa.ca.
Here's a preview of a new section called, Development information for residents.
The Province of Ontario establishes the ground rules for land use planning through the Planning Act. Municipalities are given all of their powers and authority to act by the province. The Planning Act is used in most development applications while the Municipal Act governs matters such as street openings, street closings and street name changes.
The City, at the direction of the Planning Act, creates an overall master-planning document called the Official Plan. The Zoning By-law is a companion document and a key tool in the implementation of the Official Plan. |

Who was Bruce Timmermans?
Bruce Timmermans was a long-time cycling educator and advocate , an active member of the Ottawa Bicycle Club and a founding member of Citizens for Safe Cycling. Bruce worked tirelessly to promote cycling and safety for cyclists. His legacy lives on through the awards program created by the City of Ottawa to recognize individuals and organizations committed to cycling in our community. |
The Combined Sewage Storage Tunnel (CSST) is one of the most important projects of the Ottawa River Action Plan (ORAP), which is the City of Ottawa's roadmap to protect the Ottawa River for future generations.
The CSST will greatly reduce the frequency of sewage overflows during storms from entering the Ottawa River, and will help protect the river. These tunnels will hold up to 43,000 m3 of sewer overflow during major rainfalls, the equivalent capacity of approximately 18 Olympic sized pools. Once rainfall has subsided, this water will then be treated and returned safely to the Ottawa River.
