A big day for city builders

On October 17, our department had the pleasure of hosting two city-building events in the newly opened expansion of the National Arts Centre.

Our first event, the City Building Forum brought together a wide range of city-building organizations, agencies and stakeholders in an afternoon of discussion, networking and thought provoking interactive speeches. This forum created a collaborative networking environment for city-building organizations during this unprecedented period of transformation in our city.

Our guest speakers included:
- Stephen Willis, General Manager, Planning, Infrastructure and Economic Development Department, City of Ottawa
- Laine Johnson, Acting Executive Director, Synapcity, and
- Benjamin Gianni, Associate Professor, Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism, Carleton University

Special thanks to all our guest speakers and Master of Ceremonies, Councillor Jan Harder.
Thank you for attending or tuning into Synapcity's webcast. City staff are working on answering the questions that were left unanswered and posting them on the City's website. Synapcity's facebook page will have the event video.

The City's Urban Design Awards takes centre stage

Congratulations to our 2017 award winners! The City hosted the biennial awards program to celebrate projects that achieve urban design excellence. This was our seventh installment honouring exceptional projects built between September 1, 2015 and September 1, 2017.

Winners of an Award of Excellence will be sent forward as the Ottawa entry to the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada's Urban Design Awards competition in 2018.
